The name of the shrine is taken from the Kashmiri terms "Hazrat", meaning "Sacred", and "Bal", meaning "Place" The principal tourist attraction at this magnificent shrine is an extraordinary relic known as Moi-e-Muqaddas, which is essentially sacred hair from the beard of Prophet Muhammad. The hair is so well-preserved that it is kept within the structure and is only brought before the devotees on specific Islamic festivals. As history reveals, Sadiq Khan constructed the Hazratbal Shrine as a peculiar amusement house.
