Jama Masjid
Jama Masjid is the largest mosque within the city and one among many important places of tourist destination in Kashmir.Jama Masjid is located in Downtown Kashmir. Famous for its historical importance, the Masjid was constructed in the early 15th century by Emperor Sultan Sukder. Since then, the Jama Masjid has experienced many fire breakouts and has undergone several reconstructions. Its present construction was during the reign of Aurangzeb in 1672. The grandiose Masjid stands out with its Indo-Saronic style of architecture. A huge court is flanking its entrance; 370 wooden columns pepper it. The open halls here accommodate as many people as 33,333 on a single invitation and are seen thronging by devotees on each Friday of the week.
