Jammu

                     Jammu now occupies a much more important role than just being the southernmost part of the present Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It rightly occupies its place between the PMID mountains.Today, Jammu stands out as one of the many; north is south. It is located inside the Shaivalik mountain ranges. It is the winter capital of Kashmir, known to many as hallowed and quiet, apart from its imposing temples and shrines, beautiful 'shikhara,' and cultural heritage. The fact that it is also the starting point for the highly popular Vaishno Devi Temple and Amarnath Yatra makes many tourists come here. 

Jammu is located southward and southwards into the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, perkily on the majestic Shivalik ranges. It is the Winter Capital of Kashmir; this city is holy, peaceful, majestic in temples and ghats, and shimmering 'shikhara'-ing' in culture. It is the source of pilgrimage for Vaishno Devi and Amarnath, who live far away. Tourists from distances.

Set in the snowcapped Pir Panjal Mountains, Jammu serves as a middle ground between the Himalayas in the north and the parched plains of Punjab in the south. The Shivalik hills cut the area from the east to the west, and the rivers Ravi, Tawi, and Chenab cut across it.

The City of Temples, Jammu, is home to the famous Maha Kali Temple, which is said to be second only to the Vaishno Devi Temple. It was discovered in the 14th Century Before Christ, and it was ruled by the Dogra dynasty in pre-independence times. Buddhist Stupas of the 2nd century AD are scattered all over Jammu, each of which speaks of rich heritage.Further, Jammu's eccentricity reflects itself in the Dogra cuisine, whose head is scrummy Wazwan or a traditional Kashmiri buffet for all intents and purposes. Jammu is a true blend of all the above: pilgrimage, leisure, nature, and heritage.
