Alleppey Lighthouse
Sighted as the Alappuzha lighthouse, it is visible from many miles away.
A monumental banyan tree commemorating her solitude along the seashore donned
in red and white stripes is what it has most fondly remembered. The spectacular
tower was erected in March 1862, close to nearly 148 years ago. Located about 4
km ahead of Alappuzha town, the Alleppey or Alappuzha lighthouse offers a
wonderful 360-degree view of the ocean and the geographical landscape of
Alleppey, which is mainly thick and lush foliage. Boasting its tag of being the
oldest lighthouse of Kerala, it was built when Marthanda Varma-II Maharaja
dominated the throne of this region.
