Kollam Pooram In Kollam
The annual Kollam Pooram program takes place in April, organized in connection with the Asramam Sri Krishnaswami temple festival at the Asramam Maidan. The Kollam Pooram festival is widely popular and witnesses many footfalls each year. A grand procession of elephants arrives from different temples, the most famous being the Thamarakulam Sri Mahaganapathy Temple and the Puthiyakavu Bhagawathy Temple. The kudomattam then takes place, displaying colorful umbrellas atop a traditionally decked elephant to the beats of drums known as melam. The program ends with a fireworks display at night.
