Vizhinjam RockCut Cave
- The Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave Temple is situated
17 km from the city. An 8th-century rock-cut sculpture shows the single-cell
shrine of Vinandhara Dakshinamurthi deity. For this reason, temples in India
are considered of utmost importance, and this particular one is cherished in
the southern part of the country. Many sculptures of lord Shiva and goddess
Parvati adorned the outer wall of the shrine. There is also an unfinished
statue of the god Shiva in which he has a bow in one hand and is dancing. The
wall designs are indeed very beautiful and commendable. Bhagavathy Temple,
which lies near the Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave Temple, is another historic shrine
in the region built in the 9th and 10th Centuries AD. A marine aquarium is also
situated nearby and incorporates rare marine ornamental fish.
