Jain temple
Another Wayanad tourist site that should be on every visitor's itinerary is the Jain Temple in Sulthan Bathery. Recognized as one of the most significant Kahas temples among the many Jain temples in Kerala, the Bathery temple in Sulthan Bathery was built in the 13th century. Its architecture draws heavily from the architectural pattern of the ruling Vijayanagar dynasty at the time.Another interesting aspect is the shrine's rather sporadic history; it was first used as a temple, then for commercial purposes, and later on, it served as the depot or a battery of utensils for the army of Ibrahim Sulthan. Inside the Jain temple, the inner sanctuary, surrounded by a roofless corridor, has a square rock pillar with an idol of Mahavir Jain carved on it.
In front of the main entrance, there
is a rock-made raised platform. This one also contains sculpted pillars whose
fluted parts do not have any of the crown stones. The surrounding areas are
also paved with granite stones.
