The annual Kollam
program takes place in April, organized in connection with the Asramam Sri
Krishnaswami temple festival at the Asramam Maidan. The festival is widely
popular and witnesses many footfalls each year. A grand procession of elephants
arrives from different temples, the most famous being the Thamarakulam Sri
Mahaganapathy Temple and the Puthiyakavu Bhagawathy Temple. The kudomattam then
takes place, displaying colorful umbrellas atop a traditionally decked elephant
to the beats of drums known as melam. The program ends with a fireworks display
at night.
Mayyanad: A Spiritual Place
This village is an
important place for shrines and temples and is amongst the best tourist places
in Kollam. It has nine important temples located 10 km from Kollam; it lies on
the banks of Paravur Lake and the Arabian sea coast. The most important one is
Lord Subramaniam Temple. The village has some of the oldest temples of Kollam,
visited by pilgrims from all across the country, and is one of the best places to stay near
Kollam.

Kulathupuzha
Kulathupuzha town is
located at a distance of 64 km from Kollam. It is renowned for its Sastha
temple, which is located on the banks of River Kulathupuzha. If you're a Vishnu devotee, visit this place
in April/ May as the Vishnu Mahotsava takes place here. You can also check out
the Eco-Tourism of Thenmala with Indo-Swiss dairy farms which is just 9 km away
that is one of the best places to see in Kollam.

beach and one of the top places to visit in Kollam. Placed at a distance of 5
km from the city, it is a leading beach of Thangassery. In the 1500s, The
Portuguese created a trading center here, and Thangassery became an essential center of the pepper trade. Today, one can
see a pretty seaside village here, and this beach is a fantastic place to enjoy
a sunset with your folks on your trip to South India.

Pullichira Church
Pullichira
Church is as old as the 16th
century AD, one of the famous tourist places in Kollam for its
annual fest. The most appropriate time for visiting the church is around the
Christmas festival. The date for organizing the fest is on the very first day
of the Malayalam calendar or its planned-on Sunday before Christmas. The church
is placed on Pullichira Lake, which is approachable to travelers.

Alumkadavu
Alumkadavu is one of the Kollam tourist places and is famous for being a
picnic spot. It is located near the Kollam-Alappuzha National Waterway and is

the best tourist places in Kollam? The Thangassery Lighthouse, also
known as the Tangasseri Light House, boasts of being the second tallest on the
whole coast of Kerala and is thus even one of the most visited lighthouses in
the state on this account. The tower has a total height of 41 meters, or 135
feet, and has been operational since 1902.

Kayamkulam Kayal
They are also known as
Kayamkulam Lake and one of the other famous Kollam attractions. It is
considered one of the most scenic backwaters in Kerala and a favorite spot for
nature lovers. Houseboat facilities are also available here for travelers. The
lake also hosts a boating festival.

Neendakara Port
Located 8km from
Kollam, Neendakara Port is a major fishing port in the area. Tourists visit here in
large numbers for the ultimate holiday experience in the lap of nature. The
place is lovely and offers a gorgeous view of the surroundings and Ashtamudi
Lake. The highlight is that it is also the headquarters of the Indo-Norwegian
Fisheries Community Project.

Rose
mala
One of the most
beautiful places to visit in Kollam, Rosemala, is amidst the
beautiful shendurney forests and valleys. Boasting the major attractions here
is a lake and a watch tower. Boasting the gorgeous surroundings, Rose
mala can only be reached
through a 10 km trek across the dense jungle. If you are an adventure
enthusiast, you should experience this thrilling trek. On the way, there are
beautiful views of the green hills in the backdrop and several tinkering
streams crisscrossing the forest path. Alternatively, you can also take a jeep
or an SUV if you don't want to venture out on foot.
Starting from
Darbhakkulam, a beautiful pond close to the route starting points, Darbhakkulam
was initially known for a rare plant called Poa cynosures used in Hindu
rituals. Currently, the place boasts rich wildlife. You can find vibrant
butterflies, mushroom varieties, and several species of frogs. You can also see
the green hills reflect the lake's clear water beneath which little fish keep
dancing.
A little further
on the path, there is the famous Rosemala watchtower. From the tower is visible
the mighty Thenmala Dam in all its entirety and glory. Here you can also enjoy
the mesmerizing sunrise and sunsets. After the watchtower, head to Pallivasal,
another junction on the trek. A lake where you can enjoy seating is 2 km.
Further into the tour is a lake where you can enjoy boating. The boat takes you to the meeting point of Umayar, Shenduriniyar, and Uriliyar. The spot offers breathtaking views and is a visual delight.
